Your realized implied odds are always a little worse than the stack behind suggests, and thin, speculative calls like set-mines are exactly what that tax punishes. One more reason to want a comfortable margin over the 15x number, not a call that only works if everything goes right.
Depth helps, until it doesn't
Deeper stacks are good for set-mining, up to a point. But depth cuts both ways. It brings reverse-implied risk: flop bottom set on a wet board, stack off, and run into the straight or the higher set, and the depth that was supposed to pay you is what buries you. Depth raises the ceiling and the floor at once.
